Who Are We Looking For?
We are seeking motivated and experienced Staff Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to work for the Department of Health across the North West Region.
The maternity unit, housing the birthing suite and all inpatient maternity patients for the region, is located at North West Private Hospital (NWPH) in Burnie, with antenatal and postnatal services offered at both the NWRH and MCH. There are approximately 1000 births annually and staffing includes experienced midwives. High risk births are managed in conjunction with the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) and Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) supported by the local endocrinology and diabetic teams. The unit is supported by a Level 4 Neonatal Unit and an 8 bed Level 4 Intensive Care Unit. The outreach services are located at picturesque regional centres which include the West Coast District Hospital, Smithton District Hospital and King Island District Hospital and Health Centre.
This position will be attractive to highly skilled and motivated medical professionals who view challenges as opportunities and is driven by a passion to improve healthcare in the complex world of modern health systems. The right applicants will play a key role in developing health care at both patient and system levels. The DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School. As such, you will be responsible for providing leadership and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate general medical education program.
Salary
You will have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389
- Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $291,472 - $301,349 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,389 per annum
- Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 per annum
- Allowance in lieu of Private Practice - 35% of base salary
- On Call Allowance
- North West Recruitment and Retention allowance of 20%
- Relocation package and accommodation allowance available

Eligibility:
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:
- Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
- Current Working with Children Registration
- Current Driver’s Licence
