Who Are We Looking For?
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Clinical Lead – Intensive Care, to work for the Department of Health (DoH) in the North West region. This role will require the successful applicant to work with the Clinical Director - Acute Medicine and assist with providing a high level of strategic leadership and direction, ensuring resources are efficiently utilised, services are effectively integrated within the hospital/service and the highest standards of service delivery are achieved in accordance with hospital/service policy directions, service standards and financial targets.
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is located at the NWRH. The ICU is a CICM level 2 facility and accredited for basic, elective and foundation components of ICU training with ventilatory, circulatory and renal support. It is an eight bed facility with one isolation bed, with beds dedicated to Coronary Care, Intensive Care, Surgical High Dependency and Medical High Dependency. Patients are referred from the Department of Emergency Medicine, within the NWRH or from other hospitals. The unit is complimented with trained ICU nursing staff, registrars and resident medical officers.
The two hospitals both have busy emergency and general medical departments. Both Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Paediatrics are primarily located at the NWRH. There are anaesthetic services provided at both sites however primarily based at NWRH. A busy general orthopaedic and general surgical service is based at NWRH with the MCH providing predominately day surgery cases.
The North West Cancer Centre (NWCC) operates as a branch of the Northern Tasmania Cancer Service and it is linked with the Holman Centre in Launceston. The NWCC provides integrated oncology services to patients who live in North West Tasmania. Onsite support services in pathology, imaging and pharmacy are extensive.
The DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School. As such, you will be responsible for providing leadership and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate general medical education program.

Details of Appointment
- Fixed term full time day worker position working 76 hours per fortnight commencing from as soon as possible, for a 3 year period.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.
Salary
A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.
Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $210,000 – Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $288,000 with further salary increments available.
