The Role:
The Specialist Medical Advisor - Health Protection is a public health specialist who, in accordance with Agency strategic directions, policies and service specifications, has the primary objectives to:
- Provide high level clinical direction and advice to the Director of Public Health (DPH) and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Public Health Services (PHS) on the development, implementation and evaluation of statewide communicable disease prevention and control programs and other health protection matters.
- Provide leadership on communicable disease control issues within the Communicable Disease Prevention Unit (CDPU), in collaboration with staff and unit managers, and with external stakeholders.
- Support the DPH by presenting health protection matter to the media, professional groups and the community.

The Team:
The Communicable Diseases Preventions Unit (CDPU) operates under the powers delegated by the Director of Public Health under the Tasmanian Public Health Act 1997. The primary purpose of the unit is prevention and control of communicable diseases within Tasmania, including mitigation of associated risks and threats.
The CDPU teams consist of clinical (medical, nursing and allied health) and non-clinical (high level administrative and technical) staff working in Health Intelligence, Immunisation and Public Health Response and Infection Prevention and Control.
Details of appointment:
Fixed term, part time, day worker position, working 60.8 hours per fortnight, as soon as possible for a period of two (2) Years.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in an on call roster.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary:
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $210,000 - $301,349 per annum, pro rata + 11.5% superannuation
Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $291,472 -$301,349 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

Provision of a motor vehicle allowance of $28,389 per annum, pro rata

Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 per annum, pro rata
- Allowance in lieu of participating in private practice scheme 35% of base salary (if applicable)
