The Role:
The Smithton District Hospital and Community Health Centre are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse - Community to join their team.
The Registered Nurse – Community:
- Consistent with ongoing experience strengthens health outcomes through the provision of safe quality, clinically appropriate nursing care in partnership with patients/clients, their families and other health professionals within the defined community practice area.

The Team:
Smithton District Hospital (SDH) and Community Health Centre is a small sub-acute public hospital situated in Smithton, Tasmania, serving the entire Circular Head region with a catchment population of 8,000. The hospital features 12 subacute beds dedicated to general medicine, post-acute care, palliative care, and end-of-life services. Additionally, SDH includes a 3-bay emergency first response unit staffed by nurses and General Practitioners who provide on-call medical services. Complementing these services, Smithton Community Nursing offers a comprehensive home care program and clinic services seven days a week, ensuring accessible and compassionate healthcare for the local community.

Details of appointment:
Permanent, part time, shift worker position, working 64 hours per fortnight, commencing from November 2024.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $75,902 to $102,908 pro rata, per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2023
Allowances:
You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
- Access to the Grade 4 salary range $96,558 - $102,908 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4
Payment of $15,000 staged over three years is available for Nurses and Midwives who move to Tasmania from interstate and remain employed full time for three years or more, on top of relocation allowance already available. -
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type
- Remote and Rural Professional Development Allowance of an additional salary allowance of 4%
