Job description:

Responsible for the day to day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the Hospital. Provide after hours emergency cover at the hospital as determined by the Medical Staffing Unit.

The Role:

Working across the North West region the Medical Registrar will be responsible for the day-to-day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients including providing after-hours emergency as determined by the relevant work unit.

You will need - 

  • Experience or an equivalent qualification, appropriate to the nature of the work.       
  • Skills and knowledge in Acute / General Medicine
  • Demonstrating sound judgement and competence in accordance with skills and knowledge when   undertaking tasks.
  • Ensuring work is carried out in accordance with relevant Work Health and Safety legislation and procedures

The Team:

The Tasmanian Health Service - North West comprises the North West Regional Hospital, Burnie and the Mersey Community Hospital, Latrobe.

The NWRH and MCH Acute / General Medicine departments have 78 beds in addition to a 12-bed purpose build, Rehab Unit at MCH and an 8 bed Intensive Care at NWRH.

The Department of Acute / General Medicine treat a broad range of patients, which includes, but not limited to, acute/critical/general medicine, geriatrics, rehabilitation, gastroenterology, infectious diseases, endocrinology, respiratory, stroke, nephrology, cardiology, and palliative care.

Supportive infrastructure across THS NW consists of two 24-hour emergency departments, general and acute medicine, critical care medicine, general surgery, operating theatres, endoscopy suites, and cancer services. There are two pathology laboratories and two radiology department on site. Within the Department of Medicine, other available subspecialties are endocrinology, nephrology, cardiology, infectious diseases, geriatric medicine, rehabilitation medicine, and palliative care services.

THS NW incorporates both North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) in Burnie and Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) in Latrobe. Latrobe is located 10 kms south of Devonport. The distance between Burnie and Devonport is approximately 50 kms, serviced by a national highway. The wider area has a well-developed infrastructure and has ample amenities.

The successful candidate will be remunerated according to the Medical Practitioners Tasmania State Service Award.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term full time, shift worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible until 1 February 2026. You will receive 10 hours of paid, protected training time per fortnight, pro rata. *Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant

Salary: Registrars

Medical Practitioner Level 5 - 11 $131,000 - $183,500 per annum, pro rata + 11.5% superannuation + access to salary packaging

•              Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

Eligibility:

Eligibility: Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria as

  • General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Current Driver’s Licence desirable
