The Role:
Youth Mental Health Hospital in the Home
Do you want to make a difference in the lives of young people and their families? Would you like to work in a dynamic multidisciplinary team, providing intensive mental health care within a young person’s home? Then come and help lead our new Youth Mental Health Hospital in the Home (Y-HiTH) service!
The Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) Youth Hospital in The Home (Y-HiTH) is a new service for the Northwest region, based in Devonport.
Our aim is to support young people (16 to 24 years old) who may be experiencing an acute episode of mental illness to receive treatment in their home and within the community, rather than being admitted to an inpatient mental health unit, or as part of a discharge plan from hospital.
The Y-HiTH team will work with the young person and their family/significant others to develop an individual treatment plan that supports their recovery. With multiple home visits occurring every day and additional support via telephone and telehealth, young people will receive comparable treatment from Y-HiTH as they would from an inpatient admission.
The Nurse Unit Manager – Y-HiTH works autonomously with the Y-HiTH program under the general direction of the Team Leader to provide direction and leadership to the Y-HiTH program.

The Nurse Unit Manager:
- Provides leadership to the Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) Youth Mental Health Hospital in the Home (Y-HiTH) program.
- Ensures the efficient and effective provision of care, based on clinical standards and best practice principles within a collaborative and multidisciplinary framework by coordinating the clinical, management, education and nursing research functions within the Y-HiTH.
