The role:
As part of a multidisciplinary youth mental health service (16-25 years of age), delivering high quality mental health care and, in accordance with Mental Health Service principles, National Mental Health Standards, Agency policy, legal requirements and relevant professional competencies, the Specialist Medical Practitioner - Psychiatrist will:
- Provide a comprehensive youth psychiatric service to the Youth Mental Health Hospital in the Home (Y-HiTH) Unit, within the framework of established medical services practice, recovery focused and trauma informed care.
- Provides clinical leadership in the delivery of intensive home-based care to consumers of the Y-HiTH, within a multidisciplinary team (MDT).
- Acts as a consultant to mental health professionals and health service providers, including general practitioners and other agencies, regarding the assessment and management of individuals with mental health disorders.
- Undertakes supervisory responsibilities with Psychiatric Registrars, students, and other medical staff as required/appropriate.

Details of Appointment
Fixed Term full time, day worker (with on-call) position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 1 December 2025.

Salary:
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $210,000 - $301,349 per annum, pro rata + 11.5% superannuation
Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $291,472 -$301,349 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
- Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,389 per annum
- Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 per annum, pro rata
- Relocation and commencement support available up to $15,000 for approved appointees
- other allowances as applicable
Eligibility:
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:
- Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant speciality (Psychiatry)
- Current Working with Children Registration
- Current Driver’s Licence
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
- Supervisor’s Certificate or equivalent
- Certificate of Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or Certificate of Advanced Training in Adult Psychiatry
