Job description:

The North West Regional Hospital are seeking a dedicated Clinical Nurse Consultant to assist clients and families living with diabetes

The role:

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) - Diabetes provides expert clinical knowledge and skills within a multidisciplinary framework to assist individuals and their families/carers to adjust to living with diabetes through active primary care, education, family support, research, and advocacy.

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) – Diabetes will:

  • Undertake advanced triaging and assessments, providing authoritative expertise in order to achieve optimal care planning and treatment pathways for patients.
  • Utilise a specialist expertise to educate clinicians, patients, families and carers, resulting in a better understanding and self-management of their diabetes.
  • Function as a health practitioner with a significant degree of independent decision-making to develop service delivery options and provide expertise in the provision of clinical advice and interventions.
  • Provide regular education and mentoring to diabetes educators to support succession planning and professional advancement.

The Team: 

The North West Diabetes Centre delivers multidisciplinary care and manages both type 1 and complex type 2 diabetes in adults, adolescents, and children through both inpatient and outpatient services across the north west region of Tasmania. Further, the Diabetes Centre provides education and in-service to health professionals and teachers concerning diabetes management.

The team includes endocrinologists, a nurse practitioner, nurse unit manager, credentialled diabetes educators, other nursing staff and specialised allied health staff including a dietitian, podiatrist and psychologist, and administration support.

Details of Appointment

Permanent, part time, day worker position working 32 hours per fortnight, commencing from October 2024.

*notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or fixed term full time, part time and casual vacancies.

Salary: $111,506 - $118,336 pro rata, per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2023

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible. 

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type 

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  1. Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
  2. Graduate Certificate Diabetes Education

    *Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must always remain current and valid whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled, or has its conditions altered.

  1. Graduate Diploma Diabetes Education
  2. Credentialled with the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA)
