Job description:

An exciting opportunity exists for a psychologist to join our team in Psychology Services, Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH). Tasmania offers a unique culture and lifestyle, with a strong sense of community and belonging.

An exciting opportunity exists for a psychologist to join our team in Psychology Services, Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH). Tasmania offers a unique culture and lifestyle, with a strong sense of community and belonging. Say goodbye to lengthy commutes, and enjoy breath-taking coastlines, National Parks, and incredible fresh produce crafted by locals, all within a stone’s throw of your workplace. Our relatively small size enables you to develop a strong understanding of your patients and to see the difference you make in their lives but is still large enough to offer opportunities for career progression, diversity in work, and development of areas of specialisation. The slower paced lifestyle allows you to practice mindfully and to find meaning in your work.

As the largest hospital and major triage centre for the state, the RHH sees a wide range of clinical populations, which brings diversity to the role and enables you to rapidly broaden your clinical knowledge and experience. This is a rare opportunity that would be of particular benefit to early career clinicians. Our relative geographical isolation has led to a culture of innovation, resourcefulness, and collaboration, and you have the opportunity to be part of shaping the future of our healthcare system.

The role:

As the Clinical Neuropsychologist or Clinical Neuropsychologist Registrar, you will be providing evidence-based assessments and interventions to patients of the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH). Working with the inpatient service including within a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team, you will receive referrals for patients with a variety of acquired brain injuries, neurological and neurodegenerative conditions. The role involves:

  • Assessment for diagnosis and/or monitoring of neuropsychological conditions.
  • Formation and delivery of appropriate cognitive and behavioural interventions, and
  • Working with a multi-disciplinary team to assist with implementation of appropriate discharge services and supports.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a neuropsychologist with experience in a rehabilitation setting, or an enthusiastic registrar or new graduate looking to develop skills within this field. Support and mentoring are available to help the successful applicant to transition into the role, and clinical supervision will be provided to new graduates and psychology registrars.

Please get in touch to discuss these opportunities further and how they fit with your career goals.

Psychology Services

As the Neuropsychologist, you sit within the broader RHH Psychology Services team, which consists of clinical psychologists, clinical neuropsychologists, and health psychologists, working across inpatient and outpatient settings. We are a dynamic team of high achieving clinicians, who are passionate and committed to our work and community. You will also form part of a dedicated team of RHH Allied Health Professionals, within a workplace that supports contemporary, client-centred, evidence-based practice, professional support, and opportunities for growth.

Within the Psychology Services team we offer:

  • Professional development support, peer review and clinical supervision including to new graduates and psychology registrars.
  • Support, mentoring and development from a psychology and allied health leadership team.
  • Opportunities for rotations to gain experience in different clinical areas.
