The Team

Located at the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH), the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology provides a consultative service and is supported by a level 4 maternity, a level 4 neonatal unit, and an 8 bed intensive care unit. The maternity unit, housing the birthing suite and all inpatient maternity patients for the region, with antenatal care provided at NWRH, Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) and the outreach clinics. There are approximately 1000 births annually and staffing includes experienced midwives with highly sought after MGP scheme. The outreach services (antenatal and gynaecology clinics) are located at regional centres which include the West Coast District Hospital, Smithton District Hospital and King Island District Hospital and Health Centre.

The Role

This position will be attractive to highly skilled and motivated medical professionals who view challenges as opportunities and is driven by a passion to improve healthcare in the complex world of modern health systems. The right applicants will play a key role in developing health care at both patient and system levels. The DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School. As such, you will be responsible for providing leadership and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate general medical education program. The successful applicant will participate in the after hours on call roster, based at NWRH. The frequency of on call is typically 1 in 5 weekdays and weekends.

Permanent, full time, day worker position (with on-call), working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as you can join us!

Salary

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $222,789 - $319,701 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging.

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $309,222 - $319,701 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year 
  • Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum, pro rata.
  • Participation in Private Practice Scheme 35% or allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%.
  • North West Recruitment and Retention Allowance 20%.
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $17,483 per annum, pro rata.
  • Travel and relocation assistance support is available.
  • Professional development and accelerated pathways.
  • A range of leave entitlements, including study leave and Professional Development Support.
  • Fitness Passport – You, and your family can access 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for just $14.50 per week per person, or $28.05 for a family.
  • Other allowances as applicable.

With the range of allowances included the salary can range from Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 - Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3, $465,112 - $647,306 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation.

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:  

  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty.
  • Current Working with Children Registration.
  • Current Driver’s Licence.
