The Tasmanian Health Service is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of our community.  We are committed to providing the highest levels of healthcare and services.

We are seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) for 2027. This is a 12-month role offering a 6-month rotation in the Emergency Surgical Unit (ESU) of the Department of General Surgery and 6 months in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as part of an agreed training program between both units. It is intended for junior doctors pursuing a career in General Surgery but would also be a valuable experience prior to training in other surgical and critical care specialties.

The SRMO position in the ESU is a registrar position administratively but not functionally: It aligns with the registrar term dates but is part of the RMO roster and functions as a Senior Resident Medical Officer. The roster includes some night shifts, with time allocated to undertake some administrative duties (primarily rostering). The SRMO may be called upon to cover for registrar leave if necessary.

The ICU position is an SRMO position.  Successful candidate will work day and night shifts on the   Registrar roster, with supervision and support from Registrars, Senior Registrars and Consultants.  They will see patients independently at times, including after hours and will have opportunity learn relevant invasive procedures.
