The Team:

The Office of the Chief Executive forms part of Ambulance Tasmania within the Community, Mental Health, and Wellbeing portfolio of the Department of Health. The team provides high-level strategic, operational, and administrative support to the Chief Executive and the Executive Team to enable the effective delivery of ambulance services across Tasmania.

Working at the centre of the organisation, the Office of the Chief Executive collaborates closely with executive leadership, operational areas, clinical services, and corporate teams, as well as key external stakeholders including government agencies and community partners. The team plays a critical role in ensuring coordinated communication, high-quality advice, and effective governance processes that support Ambulance Tasmania to deliver safe, responsive, and patient-focused care to the Tasmanian community.

The team operates in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, requiring professionalism, discretion, and strong collaboration to manage competing priorities and sensitive matters. It contributes directly to organisational improvement, strategic initiatives, and the delivery of key priorities that enhance outcomes for patients, staff, and the broader community.

The Role:

The Manager – Office of the Chief Executive provides strategic leadership, coordination and expert support to the Chief Executive and Executive Team. The role is accountable for the delivery of high-quality briefings, ministerial and executive correspondence, reports, and advice, while ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the Office of the Chief Executive.

This position plays a central role in managing workflows, balancing competing priorities, and enabling the progression of strategic and operational initiatives across Ambulance Tasmania. Key responsibilities include undertaking research and analysis, preparing high level submissions and reports, and engaging with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders on complex and sensitive matters.

The Manager leads and supports priority projects, contributes to the design and implementation of policies and procedures, and provides advice on sensitive issues as required.

Working with a high degree of autonomy and discretion, the role requires well-developed leadership, communication, and problem-solving capabilities, alongside the ability to operate effectively within a complex organisational and political environment. The position supports continuous improvement, strengthens governance practices, and contributes to achieving Ambulance Tasmania’s strategic objectives and commitment to safe, high-quality, person-centred care.

You will need:

  • Highly developed time management skills and a demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and effectively manage multiple projects, including the organisation of events and functions, in an environment of competing priorities and changing demands
  • High-level resource management skills and experience and knowledge of contemporary management practice especially change management and best practice and the ability to monitor effectiveness and efficiency.
  • High level interpersonal, communication, collaboration, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. Ability to represent Ambulance Tasmania and identify and negotiate mutually acceptable solutions in situations of differing interests, including the ability to work with external providers and/or non-government organisations.

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Position Features: 

  • Intrastate and Interstate travel will be required. 

Salary:

$150,796 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Ambulance Tasmania Agreement 2022.

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Holds a Bachelor of Paramedic Science or other qualification relevant to leadership/management as approved by the Service
  • Current Driver Licence

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in management or current studies being undertaken in this area
