About the Tasmanian Law Library

The Tasmanian Law Library is established through a collaborative agreement between the Crown and the Law Society of Tasmania, and is a vital resource for research, information, and education. The Library caters to the needs of the Department of Justice, legal professionals and the broader Tasmanian community. It is guided by the strategic oversight of the Library Management Committee and ensures the availability of an extensive collection of legal materials, in both digital and hard copy formats, to support the advancement and accessibility of legal knowledge.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options may be available. 

Duties

  • Deliver client assistance and advice relating to access to the Library’s resources and services, including key legal databases, in accordance with library policies and procedures.
  • Provide authoritative reference and research services, including responding to and managing complex legal reference enquires.
  • Undertake a range of professional tasks, including, but not restricted to, cataloguing, database creation, indexing, collection development and other specialist projects as may be directed by the Library Manager.
  • Actively promote the Tasmanian Law Library’s resources and services via webpages, intranet content, social media and other appropriate technologies.
  • Design, deliver, and evaluate legal research and digital literacy education and training programs to support library users, utilising online webinars, self-paced learning resources, and other digital delivery methods.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and continuous improvement of library and information services and policies by participating in problem-solving, planning, and the setting of goals and service standards.

Essential Requirements

  • A degree of at least three years duration relevant to the professional duties to be undertaken is required, as provided by a recognised university.

Desirable Requirements

  • A tertiary qualification in law, or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Experience working in a law library
