Doctors in Training Recruitment Campaign 2027 - Infectious Diseases & Microbiology Registrar
The Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is Tasmania's largest hospital providing a full range of tertiary level services for the state. The Department of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology provides a comprehensive and integrated infectious diseases and clinical microbiology service for the RHH.
The Department is currently staffed by eight staff specialist Infectious Diseases Physicians/Microbiologists who supervise two Advanced Trainees (in Infectious Diseases) and a dedicated Resident Medical Officer rotated from the Basic Physician Training Scheme.
The successful applicant will undertake ward and consultation registrar duties, general infectious diseases and specialty clinics, subspecialty unit liaison and AMS duties.
The Infectious Diseases positions are accredited for advanced training in Infectious Diseases and/or dual trainees in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. It would also be suitable for trainees in General Medicine or other disciplines seeking an elective year in Infectious Diseases.
The Microbiology position would be suitable for single fellowship Microbiology trainees, dual trainees in Microbiology or Infectious Diseases or Infectious Diseases trainees seeking to complete microbiology requirements.
Salary
$138,978 - $194,675 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging
Salary range is in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025

Period of Employment
Fixed term, full time day work, working 76 hours per fortnight (+10 hours protected training time per fortnight, pro rata), commencing from 1 February 2027 until 7 February 2028.
- Appointments up to 24 months may be available for suitable applicants

Duties
- The Registrar is responsible for the day to day management of private & public inpatients/outpatients and provides after-hours emergency cover at the hospital.
Essential Requirements
- Registration or eligible for Registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).
