The Team:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist works within the Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS), a growing statewide service focused on supporting children and young people experiencing complex mental health concerns. The team is part of a multidisciplinary mental health and paediatric network, collaborating closely with Emergency Department clinicians, inpatient units, community services, and support organisations to ensure coordinated, person‑centred, and recovery‑focused care.
CYMHS teams are dedicated, highly skilled, and client‑focused, operating within a reform‑driven environment that includes Youth Mental Health, Youth Forensic, and Out‑of‑Home Care programs. These teams work side‑by‑side with new Consultation and Liaison roles to enhance assessment, triage, care planning, and clinical decision‑making for young people presenting with acute or complex needs. The collaborative structure ensures high‑level clinical coordination, specialist guidance for hospital staff, and seamless integration between inpatient, emergency, and community mental health pathways.
The Role:
Delivering high quality mental health services in accordance with the Mental Health Services Strategic Plan, Mental Health Service principles, National Mental Health Standards, Agency policy, legal requirements and relevant professional competencies
You will need to:
- Provide mental health clinical expertise, supportive advice and clinical care to young people in a consultation liaison role by providing in-reach into the Emergency Department or relevant inpatient ward, based on best practice principles and legal and professional requirements, using specialist assessment and screening tools to deliver improved outcomes for patients presenting with mental health concerns and/or substance use related comorbidities.
- Provide treatment recommendations and specialist support to the Emergency Department staff, relevant inpatient unit staff, other health professionals and community support organisations as required and assist with clinical decision making and the planning, implementation and evaluation of care given to young people to facilitate a person centred and recovery focused approach.
- Provide support and psycho-education as appropriate and involve young people and their families/significant others in the identification of their needs, formulation of goals, development of care plans and the implementation of care.

Details of appointment:
Multiple permanent positions, part time and full time, shift worker positions, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $109,767 to $115,813 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria
- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
- Current Working with Children Registration
