Job description:
Under the direction of the Director, Office of the Tasmanian NPM, the Senior Policy and Project Officer will contribute to the development of policy advice and submissions, report writing, and play a key role in office project administration. Outputs and project activities will relate broadly to Australia’s human rights obligations, and the Tasmanian NPM and Custodial Inspector’s published expectations.
In particular, the position contributes to a two-year project to comprehensively assess the conditions and treatment of children and young people deprived of their liberty in the Tasmanian community. This project is a state first, which the Tasmanian National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) is carrying out in partnership with the Commissioner for Children and Young People.
The work of the Senior Policy and Project Officer will be undertaken collaboratively with other members of the project team. It will assist with advancing the Tasmanian NPM’s mission to strengthen protection against torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. At times the Senior Policy and Project Officer may be required to attend monitoring visits and assist with examinations. This may include intrastate travel.
