Job description:

The Conservator, as an expert practitioner, will be undertaking conservation services and provide high-level advice on particularly paper-based items, as well as paintings, photographic collections and other formats including objects. Additionally, the incumbent will provide expert advice on preservation and conservation related aspects of library, archives and museum services, including the secure display of collection and loan items, and environmental monitoring and control of exhibition and storage spaces.

This is a Department built entirely for children and young people and their communities.  Our ultimate goal is to work together to ensure that every child and young person in Tasmania is known, safe, well and learning.

Duties

The Conservator, as an expert practitioner, will be undertaking conservation services and provide high-level advice on particularly paper-based items, as well as paintings, photographic collections and other formats including objects. Additionally, the incumbent will provide expert advice on preservation and conservation related aspects of library, archives and museum services, including the secure display of collection and loan items, and environmental monitoring and control of exhibition and storage spaces.

Period of Appointment

Ongoing - ASAP start date

Applicants should be aware that for twelve (12) months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill any subsequent full-time or part-time vacancies in accordance with Employment Direction 1.

Hours per fortnight

73.5 hours per fortnight

Essential Requirements

  • Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Registration Status – Employment)
  • Degree from a recognised university or college of advanced education, preferably in materials conservation or other relevant study area

Desirable Requirements

  • Eligibility for admission to Associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) and the Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Material (AICCM)
