Job description:

We work in collaboration, using trauma informed practice, to maximise a young person’s potential and participation on return to the community.

From 3 October 2022, Department of Education has joined with colleagues in the Department of Communities to form the Department for Education, Children and Young People.

This is a Department built entirely for children and young people and their communities.  Our ultimate goal is to work together to ensure that every child and young person in Tasmania is known, safe, well and learning.

The child is at the centre of everything we do and the way we do it.

In the short term, you may still see references to Department of Communities and Department of Education as we transition.  We are working together to build our strategy and our culture and values.  This work will be continuing into 2023, and we want all staff to be involved in this.

It's an important time to join a dynamic new department.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Salary: $72,887 to $84,041 pro rata per annum (paid as hourly rate) + 11% Superannuation + 6.5% Correctional Allowance + Shift Work allowances
  • Classification: General Stream Band 4
  • Award/Agreement: Health and Human Services (Tasmanian State Service) Award
  • Location: North – Ashley Youth Detention Centre, Deloraine
  • Hours of Work: Fixed-term casual (relief) work starting ASAP for a period of up to 12 months

Please note: The Register is reviewed on a regular, as required, basis to determine suitability against the duties. You will be notified of the outcome of your suitability and contacted should a fixed-term vacancy arise. Registers are NOT a vacancy, they are used to fill short, urgent, fixed-term vacancies to ensure business continuity. Suitable applicants will be required to complete training and induction on site, prior to your first shift. Suitability does NOT guarantee any offer of employment will be made. This Register does not preclude other Youth Worker positions from being advertised.
