specialist work health and safety capabilities and partnering with the Tasmanian Prison Service to ensure effective management and compliance with the Department’s Safety Management System, and leading safety initiatives tailored to the improvement of work health and safety indicators at the Tasmanian Prison Service (TPS)

An exciting opportunity exists for a safety professional to play a key role in shaping the WHS strategy at the Tasmanian Prison Service, Department of Justice and drive continuous improvement in a complex and dynamic work environment.

Reporting to the Manager, Work Health and Safety, Safety and Injury Management Team, HR, you will provide strategic leadership to the Tasmania Prison Service, by providing direction and hands-on support to improve safety outcomes across multiple prison sites.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available. 

Duties

  • Provide high level authoritative advice on work health and safety matters to the Tasmanian Prison Service (TPS) senior executive, managers and workers.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, promotion and monitoring of the Department of Justice Work Health and Safety Strategic Plan and Safety Management System within the TPS.
  • Influence and support TPS senior executives, managers and workers to effectively implement and maintain safe systems of work and ensure compliance with the Department’s Safety Management System.
  • As Senior Consultant, Work Health and Safety (TPS) it is expected they will provide coaching and mentoring to the Consultant, Work Health and Safety (TPS) day to day.
  • Manage complex enquiries and prepare high-level correspondence, documentation, and reports in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate high level risk assessments, audits and investigations to support continuous improvement and positive learning outcomes and build the safety capacity of the TPS.
  • Prepare and analyse work health and safety reports, including identifying and advising on trends, risks and issues arising from data analytics.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to foster a collective approach, to support continuous improvement in safe systems of work and positive outcomes in safety and wellbeing.
  • Develop and implement high quality work health and safety training and resources that contribute to building safety capacity and supporting TPS senior executives, managers and workers to comply with their work health and safety responsibilities.
  • The incumbent can expect to be allocated duties, not specifically mentioned in this document, that are within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level

Desirable Requirements

    • Diploma in Work Health and Safety
    • Industry experience in a complex organisation
    • Work Health and Safety Investigation Qualification (e.g. ICAM)
    • Lead Auditor Qualification
    • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
    • Current Driver’s Licence
