Job description:

.• Provide authoritative and strategic leadership and advice to the Secretary and the Minister on the sustainable development, management, protection and conservation of all freshwater fisheries in Tasmania, encompassing recreational commercial and native fisheries. • Direct and provide strategic and operational leadership to the Inland Fisheries Service, including exercising and performing the general powers and functions under the Inland Fisheries Act 1995.

About the role

The Director of Inland Fisheries is responsible for managing and developing Tasmania’s inland fishery resources for the benefit of the Tasmanian community and stakeholders, with the aim to enhance the recreational fishing experience while ensuring the protection of our unique aquatic ecosystems. The Director provides strategic leadership and direction to the Inland Fisheries Service to deliver key priorities, projects and programs that underpin the economic prosperity of the State.

About you

As an experienced, delivery focused leader you have a strong background in freshwater fisheries or a similar natural resource management environment. You will also have excellent relationship building, collaboration and engagement skills and working collaboratively with government agencies, peak bodies and industry within a diverse and dynamic operating environment.

Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstration of an equivalent level of skills together with a proven record of executive leadership are also desirable.

The role is a Senior Executive office for a contract period of up to 5 years and offers an attractive remuneration package, which incorporates salary ranging from $178,528 to $196,275 p.a., plus 11.5% superannuation and private use of a fully maintained vehicle.

While this role offers the flexibility to work from our locations across Tasmania, candidates must be willing to spend a significant amount of time in New Norfolk as required.
