Career Medical Officer with an Interest in Oncology
Position Overview:
An exciting opportunity is available in 2025 for a Career Medical Officer at the North-West Cancer Centre, located within the North-West Regional Hospital precinct in Burnie, Tasmania. This is five-year fixed-term position, with daytime work from Monday to Friday only (no after-hours or on-call duties). The successful candidate will be involved in the assessment and care of oncology patients, joining a collaborative and supportive team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Assessment: Conduct reviews and assessments of oncology patients attending the North-West Cancer Centre for chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.
- Patient Care: Participate in the ongoing care of outpatient cancer patients, working closely with consultants, nurses, and allied health professionals.
- Interdepartmental Communication: Facilitate effective communication between the North-West Cancer Centre and the wider hospital, particularly when patients require admission or present to the Emergency Department.
- Ward Consultations: Perform consultations for cancer patients admitted to the North-West Regional Hospital.
- Quality Improvement & MDT Participation: Engage in quality improvement initiatives and participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings as required.
Details of Appointment:
- Fixed term, part-time, day worker position (no on-call duties), working up to 45.6 hour per fortnight, commencing as soon as you can join our team until 30 November 2029.

The Team: You will join a dynamic and supportive team, consisting of multiple consultant medical and radiation oncologists, alongside visiting haematological oncologists. The North-West Cancer Centre is part of the Northern Cancer Service, delivering comprehensive cancer care to approximately 250,000 residents in Northern and North-West Tasmania. The service features a clinical trials and research unit conducting phase 2 and 3 trials and operates across three sites in Northern Tasmania.

Salary and Benefits:
- Base salary range for Career Medical Officers 1-7: $128,750 - $183,340 per annum pro rata, in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022.

- General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
