About the role

You will use your clinical skills to provide a wide range of services including assessment and diagnosis, therapeutic interventions and programs for individuals and groups, consultation and collaboration with school staff, parents and other health professionals and organisations.

You will receive Psychology Board approved supervision required to meet general registration in addition to mentoring and support to help you transition from student to fully fledged psychologist.

Period of Appointment: Permanent

Hours of work: Up to 76 hours per fortnight (part time hours may be negotiated - minimum 0.6 FTE)

Salary Range:  $77,069.00 to $114,882.00 (per annum, pro rata) + 11.5% superannuation

Essential Requirements

  • Registration as a Psychologist within Tasmania in accordance with the provisions of the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (Tasmania) Act 2010 or possesses a degree with a fourth year qualification in Psychology which will enable registration following two years of supervised practice as a School Psychologist.
  • Qualifications as established by the Tasmanian Industrial Commission in the Teaching Service (Tasmanian Public Sector) Award*.
  • Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Registration Status - Employment).

* School Psychologists are covered by this Award.

Desirable Requirements

  • Eligible for membership of the Australian Psychological Society.
  • A current driver's licence.

DECYP School Psychology Scholarship

There is also an opportunity to apply for the DECYP School Psychology Scholarship

The Scholarship provides $25,000 to support the costs of studying your course. Scholarship recipients will receive: $5,000 in your final year of study; another $10,000 when you commence your job; and $10,000 following completion of two years’ service as a DECYP School Psychologist.

Students who are provisionally registered and enrolled in an accredited pathway to psychologist registration program at an Australian university can apply for the Scholarship with their job application if they are:

  • in year 5 of a 5 + 1 internship pathway
  • in year 2 of a Masters program
  • expected to complete all requirements of their course in 2025.

A limited number of scholarships are available and will be awarded on merit. An offer of employment does not guarantee that you will be awarded a scholarship. Please refer to the DECYP School Psychology Scholarship Guidelines for more information including full eligibility requirements.
