Job description:

Play a pivotal role in ensuring the continued enjoyment and accessibility of Tasmania’s award-winning Three Capes Track.

About the role

As a Field Officer, you will support the day-to-day operations of the Three Capes Track and Fortescue Bay. Reporting to the Ranger in Charge, the duties will include:

  • Undertaking minor construction works of infrastructure buildings and equipment.
  • Assisting visitors with information, advice, and safety guidance.
  • Operating and maintaining machinery, plant, and equipment safely.
  • Supervising and supporting employees and volunteers in operational tasks.

Based in Tasmania’s Southeast corner at the Tasman Peninsula, you will enjoy working outdoors in the wild Tasman National Park, among tall eucalypt forests, spectacular coastlines, and atop towering sea cliffs and dolerite rock formations. This position requires regular outdoor work in remote locations, including on the award-winning Three Capes Track, and rostered overnight stays for extended periods of up to 10 days.

Hours per fortnight

76.0 hours per fortnight (minimum 60.8 hours, by negotiation).

Period of appointment

12 months.

Essential requirements

  • Successful completion of the fitness assessment at the “Arduous “level (4.83km walk carrying 20.5kg in 45 minutes or less).
  • Workplace Level 2 First Aid qualification.
  • A current motor vehicle drivers’ licence.

Desirable requirements

  • A Trade Certificate in a discipline relevant to the duties.
  • Remote Area or Wilderness First Aid qualification.
