Job description:

Correctional Primary Health Services (CPHS) is seeking a Ward Aide to support nursing and allied health professionals in delivering care to clients across a variety of clinical settings.

The Team:

Correctional Primary Health Services (CPHS) is a statewide service within the Department of Health that delivers high‑quality, person‑centred healthcare to people in Tasmania’s correctional facilities. Operating within a multidisciplinary model, CPHS provides comprehensive primary health care including medical, nursing, allied health, mental health, and alcohol and other drug services. The team works collaboratively across disciplines to ensure continuity of care, support rehabilitation, and promote health equity for individuals in custody.

As part of the broader Hospitals South system and in alignment with the Hospitals South Strategic Plan, CPHS is committed to delivering safe, compassionate, and evidence‑based care. Team members contribute to a therapeutic environment that supports recovery, wellbeing, and positive health outcomes.

Ward Aides play an essential role within this integrated team. They support nursing and allied health staff in the delivery of daily care, client activities, and rehabilitation programs across a range of custodial health settings. This collaborative approach ensures that every member of the team contributes meaningfully to improving health outcomes for clients and strengthening the wellbeing of the Tasmanian community.

The Role:

As a member of a multidisciplinary team delivering high quality services; and accordance with the Hospitals South Strategic Plan, Agency policy, legal requirements and relevant professional competencies, the Ward Aide provides support to nursing and allied health professional staff in the delivery of care to clients across a variety of settings.

You will need to:

  • Assist nursing and allied health professional staff in general daily care of clients including bathing, dressing, feeding and personal care.
  • Participate in and assists with the supervision of client activities as requested by nursing staff and allied health staff.
  • Participate in and assists clients with their rehabilitation and recovery programs including shopping, meal preparation, serving meals and community access, as requested by nursing staff or allied health staff.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term full time, shift worker (full rotational) position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 9 May 2026. 

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $63,110 to $66,049 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.

  • Correctional allowance of 6.5%
