Job description:

Permanent Role - An exciting opportunity for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Mental Health Hospital in the Home team.

The Team:

The Mental Health Hospital in the Home (MHHITH) is a virtual ward of the Royal Hobart Hospital, providing acute care for patients at their residence as a substitute for in-hospital acute care. MHHITH is a 7 day a week service, available to adult consumers of Statewide Mental Health Service, and operates from 0700 to 2230.

The Role:

The CNS is a senior member of the team, and if often 'in-charge' of shifts - which involves receiving and preparing a handover for the team and allocating tasks due for that day, as well as responding to calls throughout the day. The CNS also has an important role in providing leadership to the nursing team via education, safety and quality activities, and supporting junior members of the team. 

You will need:

  • Extensive experience in and comprehensive knowledge of clinical nursing practice in a variety of settings, with at least five years post-graduate clinical nursing experience directly applicable to Mental Health settings.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and awards, including the Mental Health Act, Right to Information Act, Work Health and Safety Act and relevant statutory requirements and departmental procedures and policies.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, and the proven ability to work constructively as part of a multidisciplinary team at both service and community levels.

Details of appointment:

Permanent, part time, shift worker position (fully rotational), working 38 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $109,767 to $115,813 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  • Registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse and possess specialist tertiary graduate or post graduate mental health/psychiatric nursing qualification; or completed, prior to the transfer of nurse education to the tertiary sector, an accredited hospital-based program that lead to registration as a psychiatric nurse by the relevant nurse regulatory authority within Australia, New Zealand, Canada or the United Kingdom
  • Current Driver’s Licence

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Extensive, acute and community psychiatric nursing experience and/or is credentialed as a Mental Health Nurse by the Australian and New Zealand College of Mental Health Nurses Inc. or equivalent
  • Holds or is working towards relevant tertiary qualifications
