Job description:

Royal Hobart Hospital is seeking Senior Registrar/Registrars for Department of Critical Care Medicine (DCCM)

Doctors in Training Recruitment 2025/2026 - Senior Registrar/Registrar, Department of Critical Care Medicine (DCCM)

Intensive Care Registrar – CICM Trainees preferred

Department of Critical Care Medicine (DCCM) at Royal Hobart Hospital has a new vacancy for an Intensive Care Registrar, to commence as soon as possible.

In additional to the current vacancy, registrar parental leave cover registrar position will be available later in 2026 – start date to be confirmed.

Royal Hobart Hospital has Tasmania’s only Tertiary Level 3 Intensive Care Unit and we are the referral centre for all major specialties. We have C24 CICM accreditation and a very broad medical and surgical casemix – including Cardiac Surgery, ECMO, Neurosurgery, Major Trauma and all surgical and medical subspecialties.

This broad general casemix makes our unit really well suited for trainees preparing for exams, and over many years our trainees have had outstanding exam success. We have strong relationships with other RHH departments and can negotiate rotations to cover all the CICM-required non-ICU training terms. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to continue their training in Tasmania.

We run two 12 bed pods with Registrars and BASIC TRAINEES (SRMOs) working a day-night, shiftwork roster supervised by Fellows/Senior Registrars who are off-site after hours and 9 Consultant Intensivists.

We have a robust, protected-time weekly teaching program.

We also manage a private satellite unit, with CIM accreditation, with predominantly perioperative casemix including major Cardiac Surgery and Neurosurgery. We rotate registrars on a combined roster across the two sites.

Hobart is a vibrant regional city with an excellent lifestyle, a temperate climate and close proximity to outstanding wilderness and many outdoor pursuits.

The current vacancy is available immediately, or as soon as practicable for the successful candidate. We are happy to discuss potential starting dates at interview and/or following an offer.

NB –  Overseas-based applicants or Agency referrals will not be considered  for this vacancy
