In accordance with hospital policy, procedures and statutory regulations, the Staff Specialist - Intensivist will: Provide clinical services of the highest possible standard to Critical Care patients. Actively pursue improved outcomes for critical care patients by participating in teaching and research relevant to Critical Care Medicine.

Who Are We Looking For?

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Staff Specialist – Intensivist to work as part of the Intensive Care Team at the North West Regional Hospital. 

The North West Regional Hospital, Burnie is a 160 bed facility and is the principal referral centre for the North West Tasmanian community and provides general medicine, surgical (including orthopaedic), intensive care, cancer services, paediatric services, outpatient clinics and specialist services.

The ICU at North West Regional Hospital is an 8 bed Level 2 ICU, providing critical care services to the North West Tasmania. The general case mix of patients may include: trauma patients, sepsis and multi system failure, post-operative complications, unstable angina/AMI, cardiac failure / arrythmias and respiratory failure.

This position will be attractive to highly skilled and motivated medical professionals who view challenges as opportunities and are driven by a passion to improve healthcare in the complex world of modern health systems. The DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School. As such, you will be responsible for providing leadership and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate general medical education program.

Details of Appointment

Permanent, full time, day worker position working 76 hours per fortnight/as and when required commencing as soon as you are able to join the team.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.

Salary:

Specialist Medical Practitioners 

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $210,000 - $310,349 per annum, pro rata + 11% superannuation + access to salary packaging 

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $291,472 -$301,349 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 

  • Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or  motor vehicle allowance of $25,758 per annum, pro rata
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,000 per annum, pro rata
  • Relocation and commencement support 
  • Allowance in lieu of private practice of 35%
  • North West Recruitment and Retention allowance of 20%
  • other allowances as applicable

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  1. Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty 

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  1. Current Driver’s Licence
  2. Fellow of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (FCICM) or equivalent
