The Department of Health is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for Staff Specialist – Geriatric Medicine (515933) vacancy.

The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania, and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania School of Medicine.  The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region or state.

The Department of Geriatric Medicine has Staff Specialists with a range of clinical, teaching and research interests and experience.  This is a supportive, coherent and highly functioning team which is motivated to meet the service needs of our community and to promote education and innovation in Geriatric Care.

The Department is actively involved in clinical redesign to improve the older person’s journey within our organisation and is involved in interstate research collaborations in Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease. We participate in monthly regional outreach clinical, services.

Salary

A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority. 

Classification

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 to Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 in accordance with the Salaried Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2019

  • Access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Levels 1, 2 and 3 as described in the Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award.

Period of Employment

Fixed term full-time day work (with on-call), working 76 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible for a period of 12 months.

Essential Requirements:

 Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant speciality.

*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

Primary Purpose:

In accordance with hospital policy, procedures and statutory regulations the Staff Specialist – Geriatric Medicine will:

  • Provide inpatient and community-based service and work within the Aged Care Team as directed by the Head of Geriatric Medicine.
  • Provide clinical services of the highest possible standard to Geriatric Medicine patients.
  • Actively pursue improved outcomes for Geriatric Medicine patients by participating in teaching and research relevant to Geriatric Medicine.

Duties: 

  • Provide services in Geriatric Medicine including diagnosis, treatment and care for patients, both inpatient and outpatient.
  • In consultation with other clinical services assist with the management of the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) patients following referral.
  • Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs.
  • Undertake research in Geriatric Medicine.

3.  Disciplinary action in previous employment check
