The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking a certified Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist to join our team in the Radiation Oncology unit of the Royal Hobart Hospital.  The successful applicant will provide clinical and TEAP teaching skills at a highly autonomous level to contribute to our growing Radiation Oncology program. You will be self-motivated and possess exceptional communication skills, demonstrated technical skills and desirably a proven track record in TEAP teaching.

The Tasmanian Health Service provides a cancer treatment service for a population of approximately 255,000 people in Southern Tasmania. The department has recently been refurbished and has two modern Varian linear accelerators with OBI, CBCT, Respiratory Gating, IMRT and VMAT; a Philips Big Bore CT and a Gulmay superficial X-ray therapy unit. Treatment planning is carried out using a Philips Pinnacle3 planning system and ARIA is used as the oncology information system across the Cancer Service.

Permanent full-time day work, working 76 hours per fortnight.

Duties

Working in the role of Specialist Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist and as part of the team you are expected to provide high quality, comprehensive radiation oncology physics support to the Tasmanian Health Service (THS) – Southern Region Radiation Oncology Department.

Essential Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Medical Physics approved by the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM).
  • Certification in Radiotherapy Equipment Commissioning and Quality Assurance or Radiation Oncology Medical Physics by the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine.
  • Eligible for Ordinary Membership of the Australian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine.
  • Authorised by the Radiation Protection Unit in Tasmania to deal with radiation apparatus.

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer.  The following checks are to be conducted:
1.  Conviction checks in the following areas:
a)  Crimes of Violence
b)  Sex Related Offences
c)  Serious Drug Offences
d)  Crimes involving dishonesty
2.  Identification check
3.  Disciplinary action in previous employment check

Desirable Requirements

  • Post graduate qualification in Medical Physics or relevant field.
  • Higher degree or postgraduate qualifications in an area related to Medical Radiation (Radiotherapy) Physics.
